#WeekendCoffeeShare–Productivity, When Bloggers Meet, and Is It Bedtime Yet??

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that this summer has taken a lot out of me.

If not for these Weekend Coffee Shares and my Hump Day Haikus, I wouldn’t know what to blog about because…well, because I’m tired!

I’m working forty hours a week, running around all day in excessive heat. I’m exhausted and not getting enough sleep. I want to see too many people and do too many things. And it’s catching up on me.

I was supposed to go clubbing tonight with a few of my college friends. We’ve been planning it for months and  I’ve been looking forward to it all summer. I pushed the fact that I was exhausted and crabby when I woke up this morning to the side because clubbing was going to Continue reading “#WeekendCoffeeShare–Productivity, When Bloggers Meet, and Is It Bedtime Yet??”

#WeekendCoffeeShare–The Anti-Coffee Share Edition

I write this from my bed. Where I have been convalescing for most of the afternoon.

Sorry, it’s not that I don’t want to catch up with y’all. I’m just not feeling too hot right now.

That said, I do have some sharing to do, so let’s just make this a short and sweet update of a post.

— — — —

If we had plans for coffee, I’d have to cancel because, as stated above, I’ve been in bed most of the afternoon.

I’m actually supposed to be at work right now, but I left after 3.5 hours of my eight hour shift because I felt like I was going to pass out standing up. I didn’t arrive at work feeling ill. Just a little tired. I got some coffee thinking I just needed a bit more caffeine (the perks of working at an espresso bar…I can just pour myself a cold press if I please, which is what I did). Needless to Continue reading “#WeekendCoffeeShare–The Anti-Coffee Share Edition”

#WeekendCoffeeShare — Blog Changes and Life Updates (a.k.a Where the Hell Have I Been Lately???)

If we were having coffee, I’d apologize for my tardy arrival to the table. It’s been a busy and tiring weekend, folks!

If we were having coffee, I’d first point out the new theme on my blog. I realized the other day how unbelievably bored I was of my old theme. So, a new theme was in order. It’s still a work in progress. To be honest, I’m not sure how much I like it at the moment, though I do like that it’s different. The header still needs to be adjusted, as it doesn’t show up completely in mobile form…and, overall, I just feel kind of “ehh” about it right now. I really do like The Plane Theme and I love the colors…this damn header is just not quite right yet, though If you have any comments or suggestions for me regarding this dilemma, I’d love to hear them!

Speaking of blogging…if we were having coffee, I’d talk about how dismal I’ve been at keeping up with blogging lately. I  have absolutely no idea what’s going on the blogosphere. I haven’t gotten back to comments on my blog in three days and I haven’t really scrolled through my reader at all since like Wednesday? I don’t even remember, honestly. It’s not that I don’t care…I do miss all of you. Life gets busy, though…and when I’m not working, I’d rather spend my time outside enjoying the summer weather than sitting indoors staring at a screen. So, yes I’ve been Continue reading “#WeekendCoffeeShare — Blog Changes and Life Updates (a.k.a Where the Hell Have I Been Lately???)”

Paulie and Britts at the Beach

I had a bit of a surprise day off on Monday.

Okay, it was more like I failed to read my schedule correctly and thought I worked Monday when really, all along, there was nothing on it about working Monday in the first place.

I discovered this on Sunday night and my first thought was disappointment…

Only because I had just gotten these super comfortable new shoes specifically for work and I was disappointed that I had to wait until Tuesday to wear them. Yeah, you could say it doesn’t take much to excite me.

Well, newsflash, the comfiest shoes in the world don’t keep the feetsies Continue reading “Paulie and Britts at the Beach”

An Ode to the Community

…some of you are like a best friend or very close sibling–always cheering me on and giving advice when needed.

…some of you are like a mother or grandmother–offering sage wisdom and sometimes (only sometimes) gently scolding me for not seeing the bigger, better picture when I’m down on myself or uncertain about the world.

…all of you together are like a large, slightly dysfunctional, but always supportive extended family.

And so are my thoughts about the WordPress Community.

I have been reflecting lately on how much I know you all…really know you. Even though we’ve never met in person (besides you three from college and you know who you are), through your own writings and our frequent exchanges, I see your unique personalities, your passions, the things that make you shine so bright as well as, sometimes, your struggles. Blogging can be and very much is an extraordinarily personal endeavor. I know some Continue reading “An Ode to the Community”

USPS Delivers…!

I don’t get snail mail often, and when I do you can bet your boots the United States Postal Service has delivered me goodies from either…

a) Some graduate school trying to woo me into their program (Thanks GRE)

b) The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum sending complimentary stationary and calendars while kindly asking for money (I guess I signed up for their mailing list when I visited last July?)

c) My credit union sending the usual things credit unions send to their members

d) The usual college information from my university…though now, that will inevitably become the alumni association probably most likely [obnoxiously] asking for money and sending information about alumni events

Today though? Today was a happy mail day that just happened to fill my heart with joy. I came back from my first day of work (which wasn’t so bad, though I Continue reading “USPS Delivers…!”

A Steam Tunnels Story

I’ve been in the steam tunnels twice.

The first time I was too anxious to get more than a few steps.

The second time, I made it all the way to the legendary corridor where students have left their mark for years. Finally, as a day old alum, I signed the wall.

Better late than never!

So says my contribution to the wall. It was a long time coming, after all. It was something I had been hoping to do for ages.

I had first heard about the tunnels at the beginning of my sophomore year of college, during Community Advisor training (or, Resident Assistant for all y’all more familiar with the more common term…if you don’t even know what Continue reading “A Steam Tunnels Story”

Oh Hey, I Graduated!

Commencement occurred in a perfect sliver of time on Saturday. Seriously. The sun was bright, the sky was clear. It was cool, but not cold (though I was still very warm underneath my black gown). Within a half hour after the ceremony finished, the clouds started rolling in. It’s been raining pretty much non-stop ever since. We got so lucky with the gorgeous weather and I’m SO thankful I was able to graduate outside on my beautiful college campus on the prairie.

Being a college graduate is a funny thing. Well, to be more accurate, this period of transition is a funny thing. Leaving campus today was extremely bittersweet. As I was driving away, part of me wanted to turn around and speed back to the place I’ve called home for four years.

The other part of me, however, knew that I couldn’t do that. It’s time to move on. It’s time to experience more of the world, to learn and grow outside of a university setting.

What’s next for me, then, you might be wondering.

Well, first, home. I’m sitting on my childhood bed at home right now typing this post up. I haven’t been home since early January and here I am. Writing on my childhood bed.

I’m spending the summer at home. My goal is to find a temporary job, to
hang out with the high school friends I haven’t seen in a while and the college Continue reading “Oh Hey, I Graduated!”
